Printing & devices

Browsers cannot drive shop printers directly, so a small print agent runs on a PC on your network and does it for you.

5 GUIDES

Install the print agentPut the agent on a shop PC and pair it with your shop.

A browser cannot drive a thermal or A4 printer directly. The Klutch Print Agent is a small desktop program that runs on a PC on the same network as your printers, receives print jobs from Klutch, and passes them to the printer the way any other program would.

Install it on a machine that stays on during shop hours, usually the counter PC. It does not need to be powerful. It does need to be on the same network as the printers it drives.

Pair the agent with your shop once and it keeps working. Kickstart includes one print agent, Full Throttle three, and Fleet has no limit; extra agents on any plan are LKR 750 per month each.

Builds are published on the Klutch Agent releases page, linked from the landing page.

Connect a thermal receipt printerAdd the printer, set the paper width, print a test.

Add the printer once the agent is running, set the paper width to match the rolls you actually buy (80mm and 58mm are the common ones), and print a test before the first customer needs a receipt.

Getting the width wrong is the usual reason a receipt comes out with text cut off at the edge or with half the roll wasted. If a test print is wrong at the margins, the width setting is wrong; the template is probably fine.

Most USB and network thermal printers work, because the agent prints through the PC in the ordinary way. As a rule of thumb, if Windows can already print to it, Klutch can too.

Print A4 invoicesUse an ordinary office printer for full-page documents.

Full-page invoices go to an ordinary office printer through the same agent. Use A4 for anything a customer will file or pass on (an insurance job, a company account, anything destined for someone else's books), and a thermal receipt for over-the-counter work.

The same invoice can be printed either way. The layout changes; the figures and the invoice number do not.

If you only ever hand over receipts you do not need an A4 printer at all. Most shops end up wanting one once they have a few accounts they invoice monthly.

Choose what appears on a receiptYour logo, the footer note, and which lines the customer sees.

A receipt needs to carry enough for the customer to recognise the job and come back with it: your shop's name and phone number, the invoice number, the vehicle, what was done, and what was paid.

The footer is worth using for whatever you would otherwise have to say out loud every single time: a warranty note, a guarantee period on parts, or that returns need the receipt. It costs you nothing per print and saves the conversation.

Your logo and other branding on printed documents are part of custom branding, included from Full Throttle upwards. On Kickstart receipts still carry your shop's name and details, set as text.

Fix a printer that has gone offlineThe usual causes, in the order worth checking, before you call us.

Work outwards from the printer. Is it powered on, does it have paper, and does its own self-test print? A printer that cannot print for itself is not a Klutch problem yet.

Then the PC running the print agent. Is the PC on, is the agent running, and can the PC print to that printer from anything else? Most reports of "Klutch is not printing" turn out to be a machine that was shut down overnight, or a printer that was moved to a different socket.

Then the network between them. The agent and the printer have to be able to reach each other, so a printer that picked up a new address needs the agent pointed at it again.

If all three check out, message us on WhatsApp with what you have already tried; it saves us both asking the same three questions.
